A lot of celebrities went a bit overboard with their costumes at this year’s Met Gala, but what else would you expect when you hear that the theme for this year is “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” exploring the relationship between clothes created by hand (or “manus”) versus the machine (machina).
We are grateful some people did not follow the footsteps of the emperor in that old storybook where the emperor was naked and nobody could tell him because some “fashion designers” told him he was wearing a futuristic attire (my own version of the story).
However, I saw some gowns I would not mind wearing on my own wedding day. A lot of designers looked out of the box, and below are some gowns from this year’s Met Ball which I thought were wedding-worthy.
Blake Lively in Pink Burberry
This is for those daring sisters who would not mind wearing a colour other than white for their weddings. Also, capes are so in at the moment, and this pink number looked really good on Blake.
Danai Gurira in a Giambattista Valli dress.
Melanin on fleek, this dress will obviously look good on all the dark-skinned sisters out there. This simple, but elegant high neck gown can easily pass as a wedding gown.
Doutzen Kroes in Balmain
This gown can pass for a second wedding look, and some daring ladies can even make it their first. Add a veil and a train and, Voila! Wedding gown ready!
Jennifer Hudson in H & M.
Boob tube – check ….white – check ….shimmering, long train – check….all the specifications for a wedding attire. Now all we need is a yummy arm candy…and we will be aisle ready.
Karolina Kurkova in Marchesa
This gown gave me goosebumps. The intricacy of the details on the gown is just breathtaking. Then the lights made them even fancier. Just Wonderful!
Kate Hudson in Versace
We have only one word for this outfit….Bridal!!!! And the make up is also exquisite. For the ladies who don’t mind showing off some skin….or a lot of skin… 🙂
Lorde in Maison Valentino
I’m still not sure whether the cast was part of the accessories or she really broke her arm. The ruffles on this gown make for a perfect wedding gown.
Claire Danes in Zac Posen
You know we had to save the best for last. This is my personal favourite look of the night and Claire was as graceful as any blushing bride….what’s more, the gown lights up in the dark. The geek in me is doing cartwheels as we speak. I feel Zac Posen outdid himself, and I would love to see more wedding gowns from him.
What look was your favourite, and which of these can you rock for your wedding?
