Between 2007 & 2017, Here Is What Both Years Have In Common

I am yet to come to terms with the fact that it has already been ten (well, nine plus) years since I left secondary school. This time in 2007, I was preparing to resume my last term. I eventually graduated in July, away from uniforms and the regimented life, into the ‘real world’.

Despite the sleepless nights in preparation for JAMB, WAEC and NECO, 2007 was a good year. Unfortunately, looking back, I cannot say it was a good year in fashion (but that’s my opinion).

Here is a look at some of the trends you won’t believe you rocked in 2007!

Waist Coats

These were a hit! They could be worn on skirts or denim trousers. I remember spending hours in Yaba trying to find one sometime in 2009. I eventually got a black one for about 2,500 Naira which created a big hole in my pocket. I also had one made of denim. My tales of medical school are incomplete without those waist coats. In fact, I only recently gave the black one out.

Denim Miniskirt and Leggings

If you wore this combination, you were a certified hot girl!

Low-rise Jeans

I am so happy these days are over! I can’t count how many butt cracks and underwear I saw  that period. Especially on commercial buses!

Popped Collars

This was the highest form of ‘effizy’ especially for guys!

Wet Lips

Hay God! I wonder how much the manufacturers of Absolute and all the other lip glosses made that year. You could kiss 5 people, eat a mango and still have enough lip gloss on your lips to last a week. Matte lipsticks were still in the works.

Wide Waist Belts

These were popularly known as abortion belts. Almost every girl had one or two!

So far, 2017 has had nothing in common with 2007 (fashion-wise), with the way fashion trends are recycled, I hope it remains so!

Would you like to see any trend from 2007 make a comeback?
