Just less than a month ago, precisely on January 20, 2017, the internet was agog not just because the infamous Donald Trump but also because of his wife, Melania Trump’s outfit, which many say was inspired by former FLOTUS, Jackie Kennedy.
I’m not sure Melania Trump who wore a powder blue Ralph Lauren suit ever admitted to channeling her predecessor, but it was easy to see why many thought she pulled a Jackie.
But that was not to be the last time. While visiting Mar-a-lago in Palm Beach, Florida alongside her husband, Japan’s Prime Minister and his wife last weekend, the First Lady was spotted in another ensemble that looked too similar to one donned by Jackie Kennedy also at Palm Beach Airport in 1973 – a black long sleeve shirt and white wide-legged pants.
The question now is, have these two instances been a mere coincidence or are we to expect more Jackie Kennedy inspired looks from Melania Trump? It looks more like the latter to me and the reason is not far-fetched.
When asked in 1999 about the kind of First Lady she would be if her husband were President, Melania Trump said, “I would be very traditional. Like Betty Ford or Jackie Kennedy. I would support him.”
Also, beyond style choices, both Jackie Kennedy and Melania Trump take family seriously. Jackie Kennedy once said, “If you bungle raising your children, I don’t think whatever else you do well matters very much.” which is very similar to a statement Melania Trump once made saying, “I am a full-time mom; that is my first job. The most important job ever.”
Looking forward to more Jackie Kennedy inspired looks!
