Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia have made a come back and taken the reigns at Oscar De La Renta and the Autumn/Winter New York Fashion Week outing was their first as the new creative directors of the brand.
The presentation first started with pieces from Kim and Garcia’s own brand Moose, and started on a dull patent consisting whites, blacks, and greys. The pieces themselves consisting of untamed ruffles, cutaway shoulders on blouses and jackets, oversized belts which gave way to pieces in fiery reds, yellows and blues, made in soft velvets, silks, sequins and patterned fabrics.
After this, the Oscar De La Renta pieces came on and underwhelmed. The looked old. Not in the old of vintage chic coming back to overshadow modern aesthetics, but old fashioned in the sense that the designs have been thoroughly flogged and explored. . Traditional pieces like cigarette pants, colorful leggings, cashmere coats, and eighties inspired full skirts and thigh high slits.
First time glitches or a creative disaster about to take over Oscar De La Renta.
Take a look.
