Earlier this year, Pantene launched their first line of products aimed at Afro hair and have now unveiled their campaign with the message #StrongIsBeautifu, featuring African women with natural, relaxed and locked hair styled in curls, up dos, cornrows and a ‘fro.
According to Essence, a lot of work went into developing the line – “11 Black Ph.D. scientists, along with 40+ hairstylists and a world-renowned dermatologist, created the Pantene Gold Series Collection; 25+ two-hour research sessions with hairstylists and their clients were done; 20 scents were tested before the brand decided on its new signature fragrance for the collection. 4 is the number of countries (U.S., Brazil, Kenya and Nigeria) in which Pantene conducted research with more than 3,000 women, and 100+ women tried the various formulations during the development process until it was right.”
It’s about time they paid attention to the diversity of black hair but one does wonder if it’s less about being pro-black and more about tapping into the billion dollar black hair industry.
What do you think? will you be trying the products.
